Hostel Celica (at Metelkova Mesto)

Former prison artistically reinvented as a hostel
Ljubljana's most unique sleep-over offering is this celebrated hostel located within the autonomous multi-cultural zone known as Metelkova Mesto, predominantly comprised of former Austro-Hungarian army barracks and home to the city's two signature gay/lesbian dance institutions, Klub Tiffany and Klub Monokel [see entries]. Celica started out as a prison, and each of the 20 cells were transformed into two- and three-bed rooms, all individually designed and decorated by more than 80 local and international artists, with prison bars intact.
